A teardrop-shaped island off the tip of India, Sri Lanka grows some of the world's most famous tea, guards ancient rock fortresses, and shelters both elephants and blue whales.

Article 6 of the constitution prescribes the flag by reproducing it in the Second Schedule as a picture, with no words describing it and none assigning it a meaning. The government's own account supplies the readings instead: the lion for the Sinhalese and the sword for sovereignty, the bo leaves for Buddhism and for four Buddhist virtues, the orange stripe for the Tamil community and the green for the Muslim community, the maroon for the country's other religions and the yellow border for its other communities.
A continent pretending to be a country - Australia is the only nation that fills an entire continent, with most of its 27 million people clinging to the coast while the red-dirt interior does its own thing.

Sri Lanka’s rupee has moved through sharp repricings rather than gentle drift, so a rate checked weeks ago is a poor guide to today’s. Recipients are often paid into rupee accounts that carry their own inward-transfer handling, separate from anything the sender pays.
The exchange rate is set on the sending side - by the service the sender chooses in Australia - so the most useful thing a receiver can do happens before the transfer: share the live mid-market rate on this page so the sender can judge the margin in their quote. How the money arrives in Sri Lanka determines any local receiving charges - bank-to-bank transfers can pass through intermediary banks that deduct handling fees.

Directions issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in 2021, under the Foreign Exchange Act of 2017, establish an account category for exactly this situation. The Personal Foreign Currency Account may be held by a Sri Lankan national, by a person of Sri Lankan origin living outside Sri Lanka, by a non-national resident in the country and by a non-national visiting or intending to visit. Among the credits those Directions permit, first on the list, are remittances in foreign exchange received from outside Sri Lanka in favour of the account holder through the banking system. The account is not a workaround; it is the instrument the rules were drafted around.
The channel that carries the money there is a separate question, and the Central Bank answers it with a caveat attached. It publishes a directory of the remitting agents and other remitting channels that licensed banks work with, and states on that same page that those institutions are not registered with or regulated by it, and that it does not hold itself responsible for their business activities. The bank crediting the account is supervised; the channel that reached it may not be.
Once the credit is instructed the domestic leg is quick and its terms are published. LankaPay operates the Common Electronic Fund Transfer Switch, and the Central Bank's payment systems page states that payments over that switch are credited to customer accounts on a real-time basis, every day of the year, up to five million rupees on a single transfer. Sri Lanka is not among the ISO 13616 formats in the IBAN registry, so a sender works from a bank identifier code and an account number.

How much Sri Lankan rupee will I receive in Sri Lanka?
A little less than the mid-market figures above. The service the sender uses in Australia sets the rate and fees; local receiving banks in Sri Lanka can also apply their own charges depending on how the transfer arrives.

Whatever their transfer service asks for on the receiving side - typically your full legal name and local bank account details in Sri Lanka. Give the name exactly as your bank records it; mismatches are the most common reason a transfer is delayed.
Why did I receive less than the rate on this page suggests?
The mid-market rate is the midpoint between global buy and sell prices, and no retail provider deals at it. The gap between it and a quote is the provider’s margin, which is usually where most of the cost of a transfer sits. On a bank-to-bank transfer an intermediary bank can also deduct a handling charge in transit.
