A red field bearing an open, interlaced green star of five points. Dahir 1-05-99 of 23 November 2005 fixes the cloth, the colours by name, the proportions and the star's geometry, and repealed the 1915 dahir that had added the star and called it the Seal of Solomon. Neither that dahir nor article 4 of the constitution, which names the flag as the emblem of the Kingdom, assigns the colour or the star any meaning. The red is conventionally linked to the Alaouite dynasty and the sharifs.

Six of the big star's points stand for the states and the seventh for the territories; the Southern Cross marks Australia's place in the southern sky.
Morocco manages the dirham against a basket weighted towards the euro, inside a band rather than a hard peg, so this pair mostly follows the Australian dollar against the euro. The dirham is also restricted at the border, which is why it is rarely available to buy before travelling.
The exchange rate is set on the sending side - by the service the sender chooses in Australia - so the most useful thing a receiver can do happens before the transfer: share the live mid-market rate on this page so the sender can judge the margin in their quote. Morocco writes down the ways money is allowed to reach a person there. The general instruction on exchange operations, in the edition in force from January 2026, provides that settlements in favour of residents or coming from abroad may be made in three ways. They are a transfer received from abroad, a debit of the foreign-currency or convertible-dirham accounts that foreign residents, non-residents and Moroccans living abroad hold with a bank, and an international postal money order under the rules of the Universal Postal Union. The postal route is named in the instrument itself, alongside the banking one.
That instruction is the work of the Office des Changes, which administers exchange rules and is a separate institution from the central bank. Bank Al-Maghrib oversees the payment infrastructure instead, and is specific about who runs what. It describes the Moroccan interbank clearing system as managed by a grouping formed for that purpose, administered by a board of ten participant members. That system replaced the old physical exchange of paper payment instruments and handles all cashless payment instruments except card transactions, settling by multilateral netting once a day in central bank money through the country's gross settlement system. It is domestic infrastructure, so an arriving payment reaches a Moroccan bank before it touches any of this.
Bank Al-Maghrib's own term for a Moroccan account's identity document is the RIB, the relevé d'identité bancaire, which appears in the Bank's account-centralisation service where heirs may request an inventory of the accounts held in a deceased person's name. Morocco does not appear among the ISO 13616 formats in the IBAN registry.

Whatever their transfer service asks for on the receiving side - typically your full legal name and local bank account details in Morocco. Give the name exactly as your bank records it; mismatches are the most common reason a transfer is delayed.
Why did I receive less than the rate on this page suggests?
No retail provider transacts at the mid-market rate - it is the midpoint of the wholesale market. What separates it from a quoted rate is margin, and margin is normally a larger cost than any advertised fee. On a bank-to-bank transfer an intermediary bank can also deduct a handling charge in transit.
