A broad red horizontal band over a narrower green one, with a red-on-white Belarusian national ornament running vertically down the hoist on a white field one ninth of the flag's length. The flag's law gives the colours no meaning; the official reading takes red for strength, courage, nobility and energy, green for hope, health, youth and revival, and the ornament for the people's ancient culture, its content telling of bread and harvest.

A continent pretending to be a country - Australia is the only nation that fills an entire continent, with most of its 27 million people clinging to the coast while the red-dirt interior does its own thing.
A blue field with the Union Jack in the canton, a large white seven-pointed Commonwealth Star below it, and the five white stars of the Southern Cross at the fly. Six of the big star's points stand for the states and the seventh for the territories; the Southern Cross marks Australia's place in the southern sky.
Belarus redenominated its ruble in 2016 at ten thousand to one, so older figures are wildly out of scale. Sanctions have since closed most ordinary transfer routes from Australia, leaving few practical options regardless of the rate.
The exchange rate is set on the sending side - by the service the sender chooses in Australia - so the most useful thing a receiver can do happens before the transfer: share the live mid-market rate on this page so the sender can judge the margin in their quote. Settlement between Belarusian banks is the National Bank's own work. The Belarus Interbank Settlement System is operated by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus and is the country's real-time gross settlement service, assessed against the international core principles for systemically important payment systems. Around it the same institution built something broader. A single settlement and information space was created by the National Bank to organise mass payments for goods, services and obligations to the budget, and since 2016 its operation has been carried out by a non-bank credit and financial organisation set up for the purpose. That space is domestic, and its purpose is paying bills in: its operator counts 50,700 connected service producers, reached at 21 Belarusian banks through cash desks, self-service machines and internet and mobile banking.
What can reach any of it from outside is decided elsewhere and by name. The Council of the European Union lists among its measures a ban on transactions with the Central Bank of Belarus and a ban on transactions with another four Belarusian banks. It also bans the provision of euro-denominated banknotes to Belarus, which restricts the physical currency itself rather than any transfer of it. Those measures run on a renewal cycle. The human rights regime was last extended until 28 February 2027, with 310 individuals and 46 entities sanctioned under it.
The United States names institutions individually. On 24 February 2022 the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control added Bank Dabrabyt and the Belarussian Bank of Development and Reconstruction, Belinvestbank, to its list of specially designated nationals, and placed BPS-Sberbank on a separate list restricting correspondent and payable-through accounts. The programme those designations sit in rests on two executive orders, one made in June 2006 and one in August 2021.

How much Belarusian ruble will I receive in Belarus?
A little less than the mid-market figures above. The service the sender uses in Australia sets the rate and fees; local receiving banks in Belarus can also apply their own charges depending on how the transfer arrives.

Whatever their transfer service asks for on the receiving side - typically your full legal name and local bank account details in Belarus. Give the name exactly as your bank records it; mismatches are the most common reason a transfer is delayed.
Why did I receive less than the rate on this page suggests?
The mid-market rate is the midpoint between global buy and sell prices, and no retail provider deals at it. The gap between it and a quote is the provider’s margin, which is usually where most of the cost of a transfer sits. On a bank-to-bank transfer an intermediary bank can also deduct a handling charge in transit.
