One of the most densely populated large countries on Earth, laced with rivers and delta. Bangladesh is where the Ganges and Brahmaputra fan out toward the sea.
It sits on the largest river delta in the world, formed by the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers.
It shares the Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove forest and a stronghold of the Bengal tiger.
Cox's Bazar boasts one of the longest natural sea beaches on the planet.
It's one of the most densely populated large countries in the world.
WHAT THE FLAG MEANS
A red disc set slightly towards the hoist on a bottle-green field, in the proportion 10:6, the disc's radius one-fifth of the flag's length and its centre at nine-twentieths of the length from the hoist. Bangladeshi law describes the flag without interpreting it: neither Article 4(2) of the Constitution nor the Flag Rules, 1972 assigns the red or the green any meaning. Popularly the disc is read as the rising sun over Bengal and the blood shed in the 1971 liberation war, and the green as the country's landscape.
A continent pretending to be a country - Australia is the only nation that fills an entire continent, with most of its 27 million people clinging to the coast while the red-dirt interior does its own thing.
It's home to the Great Barrier Reef, the largest living structure on Earth.
Around 80% of its mammals, including the kangaroo and koala, live nowhere else on the planet.
Canberra was purpose-built as a compromise capital because Sydney and Melbourne couldn't stop arguing over the honour.
It has more kangaroos than people.
WHAT THE FLAG MEANS
A blue field with the Union Jack in the canton, a large white seven-pointed Commonwealth Star below it, and the five white stars of the Southern Cross at the fly. Six of the big star's points stand for the states and the seventh for the territories; the Southern Cross marks Australia's place in the southern sky.

The receiver’s side of this corridor
The taka corridor runs heavily on family support, and Bangladesh treats inward remittances as a policy priority - money arriving through formal channels is handled differently from money that does not. Amounts convert into five- and six-figure taka sums, so decimal placement is worth double-checking.
The exchange rate is set on the sending side - by the service the sender chooses in Australia - so the most useful thing a receiver can do happens before the transfer: share the live mid-market rate on this page so the sender can judge the margin in their quote. How the money arrives in Bangladesh determines any local receiving charges - bank-to-bank transfers can pass through intermediary banks that deduct handling fees.
Bangladesh Bank operates the country's core domestic plumbing itself. Its own description covers the National Payment Switch Bangladesh, which gives interoperability across bank cards and internet banking transfers, and the electronic funds transfer network used for most government salary and social safety net payments. On cross-border money the same page draws the general rule plainly: no cross-border money transfer is allowed under the mobile financial service interoperability arrangements, though local disbursement of inward foreign remittance arriving through the banking channel is permitted.
A Bangladesh Bank foreign exchange circular of November 2022 opened a deliberate exception, permitting licensed mobile financial service providers to receive inbound wage remittance directly, working with recognised online payment gateway service providers, banks, digital wallets, card schemes or aggregators abroad. The provider credits the wage earner's account in taka while the settlement between institutions happens separately.
Under the same circular a wage earner opens the receiving account through electronic know-your-customer checks together with validated proof of departure from Bangladesh, meaning the passport page stamped with an arrival or departure date. The account is a specific instrument with an eligibility test attached, not an ordinary wallet. The circular is explicit that such an account can only be credited against foreign currency, and that on the holder's return to Bangladesh it converts to an ordinary local account. Bangladesh does not appear among the ISO 13616 formats in the IBAN registry.
How much Bangladeshi taka will I receive in Bangladesh?
A little less than the mid-market figures above. The service the sender uses in Australia sets the rate and fees; local receiving banks in Bangladesh can also apply their own charges depending on how the transfer arrives.
The sender asked for my details - what will they need?
Whatever their transfer service asks for on the receiving side - typically your full legal name and local bank account details in Bangladesh. Give the name exactly as your bank records it; mismatches are the most common reason a transfer is delayed.
Why did I receive less than the rate on this page suggests?
No retail provider transacts at the mid-market rate - it is the midpoint of the wholesale market. What separates it from a quoted rate is margin, and margin is normally a larger cost than any advertised fee. On a bank-to-bank transfer an intermediary bank can also deduct a handling charge in transit.
