A long ribbon of a country stretching from subtropical jungle to the icy tip of Patagonia, where tango, steak and football are practically constitutional rights.
It's home to Aconcagua, the highest mountain in both the Americas and the Southern Hemisphere.
The country has won the men's football World Cup three times.
The Iguazú Falls on its border form one of the largest waterfall systems on Earth.
It shares Patagonia and the vast Pampas grasslands, famed for gauchos and cattle ranching.
The tango, now danced worldwide, was born in the working-class neighbourhoods of Buenos Aires.
WHAT THE FLAG MEANS
Three horizontal bands of light blue, white and light blue with a golden sun in the centre. Belgrano raised the light blue and white in 1812, taking them from the national cockade adopted that same month; Congress added the sun in 1818. Decree 10.302 of 1944 defines it as the sun engraved on the first Argentine coins of 1813, with thirty-two alternating flaming and straight rays, and assigns it no meaning; Casa Rosada traces the design to the Inca sun, a figure of Inti.
A continent pretending to be a country - Australia is the only nation that fills an entire continent, with most of its 27 million people clinging to the coast while the red-dirt interior does its own thing.
It's home to the Great Barrier Reef, the largest living structure on Earth.
Around 80% of its mammals, including the kangaroo and koala, live nowhere else on the planet.
Canberra was purpose-built as a compromise capital because Sydney and Melbourne couldn't stop arguing over the honour.
It has more kangaroos than people.
WHAT THE FLAG MEANS
A blue field with the Union Jack in the canton, a large white seven-pointed Commonwealth Star below it, and the five white stars of the Southern Cross at the fly. Six of the big star's points stand for the states and the seventh for the territories; the Southern Cross marks Australia's place in the southern sky.

The receiver’s side of this corridor
Argentina has operated exchange controls for much of the past decade, and official and parallel rates have at times sat far apart, so a mid-market peso figure is a reference point rather than what a recipient can spend. The currency has also been redenominated more than once in living memory, which makes older comparisons meaningless.
The exchange rate is set on the sending side - by the service the sender chooses in Australia - so the most useful thing a receiver can do happens before the transfer: share the live mid-market rate on this page so the sender can judge the margin in their quote. How the money arrives in Argentina determines any local receiving charges - bank-to-bank transfers can pass through intermediary banks that deduct handling fees.
The notification you are owed, and the choice that comes with it
Money sent to Argentina from abroad is credited first to the local bank's correspondent account, and the central bank's foreign exchange rules attach two things to that moment. The beneficiary must be notified within one business day of the funds being credited there, and at the same time they choose what happens next: convert at the exchange market, or have the amount credited to a foreign-currency account at a local institution. The choice belongs to the recipient. The inflows that do carry a mandatory settlement obligation are enumerated separately, at section 2 points 2.1 to 2.6.
What a sender needs is the account key, twenty-two digits, built from an entity code, a branch, an account number and check digits. A wallet account has one of the same shape with the payment provider's code in it. Aliases exist too, of a defined length and character set, and are unique and non-repeatable across the entire national financial system, so no two people anywhere in Argentina can hold the same one. The rules also fence the alias database: all access to it must be directed at the administered platform, and connection is confined to local financial entities, payment providers and third parties they authorise.
The instruction itself has to be complete or the money stops. For the sender the rules require full name, a domicile or a national identification number, the client's identification number at the ordering institution, and the account number or international account number - though Argentina itself does not appear in the ISO 13616 registry, so a local account has none. For the beneficiary they require only a name and a transaction number. Where that minimum is missing the receiving entity must hold the transfer, leaving it unsettled at the exchange market and uncredited to any local foreign-currency account, and may not return it or pass it on until the gap is filled.
At the counter a recipient presents an identity document admitted under the central bank's own rules. A passport is accepted for non-residents.
How much Argentine peso will I receive in Argentina?
A little less than the mid-market figures above. The service the sender uses in Australia sets the rate and fees; local receiving banks in Argentina can also apply their own charges depending on how the transfer arrives.
The sender asked for my details - what will they need?
Whatever their transfer service asks for on the receiving side - typically your full legal name and local bank account details in Argentina. Give the name exactly as your bank records it; mismatches are the most common reason a transfer is delayed.
Why did I receive less than the rate on this page suggests?
No retail provider transacts at the mid-market rate - it is the midpoint of the wholesale market. What separates it from a quoted rate is margin, and margin is normally a larger cost than any advertised fee. On a bank-to-bank transfer an intermediary bank can also deduct a handling charge in transit.
