A continent pretending to be a country - Australia is the only nation that fills an entire continent, with most of its 27 million people clinging to the coast while the red-dirt interior does its own thing.
A blue field with the Union Jack in the canton, a large white seven-pointed Commonwealth Star below it, and the five white stars of the Southern Cross at the fly. Six of the big star's points stand for the states and the seventh for the territories; the Southern Cross marks Australia's place in the southern sky.
The dram is a floating currency in a small open economy, and Armenia has a large and long-established diaspora that keeps inward transfers flowing. Amounts run to several hundred dram per Australian dollar.
The exchange rate is set on the sending side - by the service the sender chooses in Australia - so the most useful thing a receiver can do happens before the transfer: share the live mid-market rate on this page so the sender can judge the margin in their quote. How the money arrives in Armenia determines any local receiving charges - bank-to-bank transfers can pass through intermediary banks that deduct handling fees.

Armenia's currency law sorts money arriving from abroad by what it is for. The general rule in Article 7 is that payments in the territory of Armenia are conducted in drams. Article 7 then carves out non-commercial transactions, which Article 3 defines to include transfers into and out of the country covering salary, pensions, inheritance, financial aid and donations, and allows those to be conducted in foreign currency, in cash or otherwise. The carve-out has one exception written into it. Salary payments are excluded, so wages sent from abroad stay on the dram rule while a gift from a relative does not.
There is a trap next door. Article 6 requires monetary payments to be accepted and made in drams, which reads like the answer to the whole question. It does not reach this transfer at all, because it governs payments between residents inside Armenia, and the person sending money from Australia is not one.
The framing above it is permissive. No restrictions may apply to the conducting of current currency transactions, and those are defined as transactions or payments between a resident and a non-resident irrespective of their amount. Residency itself has a default worth knowing: a natural person who fails to produce evidence of residency is deemed to be a resident. When foreign currency is bought or sold, the specialised person doing it must give the customer a receipt in the form the Central Bank prescribes.
Armenia has no entry in the international register of account formats, and it does not need one domestically. A Central Bank board decision of July 2013, still in force, sets a sixteen-character account number, twelve of them mandatory, opening with a code for the financial organisation and carrying a check digit of its own.

How much Armenian dram will I receive in Armenia?
A little less than the mid-market figures above. The service the sender uses in Australia sets the rate and fees; local receiving banks in Armenia can also apply their own charges depending on how the transfer arrives.
The sender asked for my details - what will they need?
Whatever their transfer service asks for on the receiving side - typically your full legal name and local bank account details in Armenia. Give the name exactly as your bank records it; mismatches are the most common reason a transfer is delayed.
Why did I receive less than the rate on this page suggests?
No retail provider transacts at the mid-market rate - it is the midpoint of the wholesale market. What separates it from a quoted rate is margin, and margin is normally a larger cost than any advertised fee. On a bank-to-bank transfer an intermediary bank can also deduct a handling charge in transit.
