About the AUD/UZS rate

The AUD/UZS rate is how many UZS one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/UZS rate history.

The other directions of this rate: the reverse rate, UZS → AUD, is on the receiving Uzbekistani som view, and sending Australian dollars to Uzbekistan is covered on the AUD → UZS transfer page. Every AUD pair sits on the convert hub, and to work in more than one currency at once there is the currency converter.

What Uzbekistan's denominations record

The som is younger than it looks in a quoted figure. It was introduced on 1 July 1994 under a presidential decree of the previous month, replacing an interim sum-coupon at a thousand coupons to one sum. Its first banknote series ran from 1 sum to 100 sum, and those notes stayed in circulation until they were withdrawn on 1 March 2020.

The top denomination now is the 200,000 soum note of the 2022 series. Between the ceiling of the first series and the ceiling of the current one there is a factor of two thousand, and no redenomination anywhere in between: Uzbekistan has never cut a zero, so the arithmetic that other countries reset by decree has simply accumulated in the note designs.

Two presidential decrees mark the change in how the currency is managed. The decree of 2 September 2017 on liberalising currency policy provided that the rate against foreign currencies be set at interbank electronic trading on the currency exchange exclusively on the basis of supply and demand, and abolished the requirement that exporters surrender their foreign currency earnings. The decree of 18 November 2019 then directed a phased move to inflation targeting, and the Central Bank has run that regime since 2020 under a free-floating exchange rate it does not aim at.

The target itself was set as a staircase, at 10 per cent by 2021 and a permanent 5 per cent by 2023. The Bank's guidelines for 2026 to 2028 restate the 5 per cent objective and expect to reach it in 2027, which puts the arrival four years later than the decree envisaged.

No. Banks and transfer services add a margin, so the rate you’re offered will be a little worse than the mid-market rate shown here.
