About the AUD/AZN rate
The AUD/AZN rate is how many AZN one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/AZN rate history.
Reading the same rate from the other side: the reverse rate, AZN → AUD, is on the receiving Azerbaijani manat view, and sending Australian dollars to Azerbaijan is covered on the AUD → AZN transfer page. Every AUD pair sits on the convert hub, and to work in more than one currency at once there is the currency converter.
How the notes are issued and replaced
Azerbaijan's current money starts in 2006. The Central Bank of Azerbaijan issued a new manat that year at a redenomination of one to five thousand against the previous one, in seven note denominations from 1 to 200 manat plus six coin denominations, under a single design concept the Bank calls Independent Azerbaijan. Every note in circulation today descends from that decision.
Since 2021 the Bank has been replacing that series at a deliberate pace. There has been no single changeover date. Denominations are upgraded one at a time: the 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 manat notes from 2021, with the 10 manat carrying the theme History and the 20 manat the theme Karabakh in 2022, and an upgraded 100 manat note on the theme Economy and Growth entering circulation on 15 July 2026.
The superseded notes are not withdrawn. The Bank states that both the original and the upgraded version of each denomination remain legal tender and circulate together. There is no exchange deadline and no window to miss, which is a different arrangement from a currency reform and is often confused with one.
The upgraded notes are also unusually well documented on the security side. The Bank publishes the features itself: a colour-changing three-dimensional micro-mirror hologram, a dynamic light and colour element, a watermark carrying the State Coat of Arms and the denomination, a tactile feature for people with impaired vision, a colour-shifting security thread, intaglio printing and micro-text.
Listing them serves the arrangement above. Where two versions of a denomination are lawful money at the same time, a holder cannot tell a genuine old note from a forgery by checking it against the new design, so the central bank has to publish what each version carries.
