About the AUD/KZT rate

The AUD/KZT rate is how many KZT one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/KZT rate history.

Reading the same rate from the other side: the reverse rate, KZT → AUD, is on the receiving Kazakhstani tenge view, and sending Australian dollars to Kazakhstan is covered on the AUD → KZT transfer page. Every AUD pair sits on the convert hub, and to work in more than one currency at once there is the currency converter.

The mirroring mechanism, and the sovereign fund behind it

Kazakhstan has floated the tenge since August 2015, under an inflation-targeting framework aiming at around 5 per cent in the medium term, and the National Bank puts the consequence bluntly in its own public answers: since that date the country has had a freely floating exchange rate, so the concept of devaluation is no longer relevant to it.

A floating currency does not mean an absent central bank, and the National Bank is a large, scheduled seller of foreign currency for two separate reasons. The first is fiscal. Transfers from the National Fund to the republican budget are funded by the Bank buying foreign currency from the Fund and selling it on the domestic exchange market, spread evenly and following what it calls a principle of market neutrality. It publishes the amounts: 500 million US dollars purchased from the Fund in July 2026 to be sold gradually to the year's end, against actual Fund sales on the exchange of 200 million that month, about 2.3 per cent of trading volume.

The second reason is the more unusual, and it was introduced in January 2025. When the Bank buys domestically produced gold, it pays in newly issued tenge - and it then sells US dollars on the exchange in an amount equivalent to the tenge it has issued, withdrawing the money it just created. It calls this mirroring, and it makes a gold purchase monetarily neutral by construction. The sterilisation involved is not small: around 374 billion tenge in July 2026, and around 475 billion in November 2025.

Both operations run on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange, and both are reported month by month. That turns a sovereign wealth drawdown into a published supply schedule.

No. Banks and transfer services add a margin, so the rate you’re offered will be a little worse than the mid-market rate shown here.
