About the AUD/DOP rate

The AUD/DOP rate is how many DOP one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/DOP rate history.

Where else this pair appears: the reverse rate, DOP → AUD, is on the receiving Dominican peso view, and sending Australian dollars to the Dominican Republic is covered on the AUD → DOP transfer page. Every AUD pair sits on the convert hub, and to work in more than one currency at once there is the currency converter.

What Dominican law says you may do with money

Free convertibility of the Dominican peso is written into the statute. Article 28 of the Ley Monetaria y Financiera 183-02 states that the exchange regime is based on the free convertibility of the national currency with other currencies and that economic agents may transact in foreign currency on the terms they freely agree. The same article forbids the Central Bank, in any case, from requiring that particular international exchange operations be conducted exclusively with it.

The escape hatch is narrow and timed. The Junta Monetaria may set temporary limits on short-term foreign capital inflows only by a two-thirds vote, only for a period fixed in advance, and only for no more than one year, and the measures must be equitable, non-discriminatory and taken in good faith.

The same law settles what currency a debt is paid in. Article 24 makes the national currency the only legal tender with full discharging power for public and private obligations throughout the country, and then provides that monetary debts are paid in the currency agreed, and in national currency only where there is no express agreement.

Dealing in foreign exchange is a licensed activity with an unusual condition. Articles 29 and 30 restrict foreign exchange intermediation to authorised financial institutions and to Agentes de Cambio, and require an exchange agent to be a joint-stock company under Dominican law whose corporate purpose is exclusively that business, authorised in advance by the Junta Monetaria.

The Bank publishes what it will not take back. A note that has lost more than two-fifths of its surface is not exchanged, nor is one of impossible identification or one written or stamped upon; such pieces are withdrawn without compensation, as are coins that have been filed, cut or perforated. Reproducing, imitating, falsifying or simulating notes and coins carries a Central Bank fine of ten times the face value the pieces would have had, independent of any criminal penalty.

Common questions

What is AUD to DOP today?

This page shows the current mid-market AUD→DOP rate with a converter and a 90-day chart. The mid-market rate is a reference midpoint, not a rate you can transact at.

Will I get the mid-market rate?

No. Banks and transfer services add a margin, so the rate you’re offered will be a little worse than the mid-market rate shown here.
