The Caribbean guilder is among the newest currencies in circulation anywhere: it replaced the Netherlands Antillean guilder at par on 31 March 2025 and became the sole legal tender that July. One central bank issues it for two separate constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which is unusual for a currency serving so small a population.
A continent pretending to be a country - Australia is the only nation that fills an entire continent, with most of its 27 million people clinging to the coast while the red-dirt interior does its own thing.
A blue field with the Union Jack in the canton, a large white seven-pointed Commonwealth Star below it, and the five white stars of the Southern Cross at the fly. Six of the big star's points stand for the states and the seventh for the territories; the Southern Cross marks Australia's place in the southern sky.
The Caribbean guilder is new: it replaced the Netherlands Antillean guilder at par on 31 March 2025, issued by the same central bank for the two constituent countries that share it. Older ANG quotes are no longer live money, so check that a provider is actually pricing XCG and not a legacy code.
The exchange rate is set on the sending side - by the service the sender chooses in Australia - so the most useful thing a receiver can do happens before the transfer: share the live mid-market rate on this page so the sender can judge the margin in their quote. How the money arrives in Curaçao and Sint Maarten determines any local receiving charges - bank-to-bank transfers can pass through intermediary banks that deduct handling fees.

The alphabetic currency code for Curaçao and Sint Maarten changed and the numeric one did not. ISO 4217 Amendment 176 confirms XCG for the Caribbean guilder, states that the numeric code 532 remains unchanged, and fixes the date that matters to anyone being paid: electronic and digital payments in the old code have not been accepted since 31 March 2025.
Those two facts together are what makes this changeover easy to miss. A currency is identified by both codes, and here only one of them moved, so an instruction or a configuration that carries the numeric code alone looks exactly as it did before while the alphabetic code beside it has been retired. That is the thing worth checking on a quote or a payment form: which of the two codes is being shown, and whether the alphabetic one is the current XCG.
The retirement is recorded in the standard itself, not merely announced. The current list of active codes carries the Caribbean guilder against both Curaçao and Sint Maarten, and the old code now sits in the list of historic denominations against both entities with a withdrawal date of March 2025. Neither Curaçao nor Sint Maarten appears in the ISO 13616 registry.

Why did I receive less than the rate on this page suggests?
No retail provider transacts at the mid-market rate - it is the midpoint of the wholesale market. What separates it from a quoted rate is margin, and margin is normally a larger cost than any advertised fee. On a bank-to-bank transfer an intermediary bank can also deduct a handling charge in transit.
