A South American country of Caribbean coastline and Amazon rainforest, Venezuela is home to Angel Falls, the highest uninterrupted waterfall on the planet.
Angel Falls, plunging around 979 metres, is the world's tallest uninterrupted waterfall.
Its flat-topped 'tepui' mountains helped inspire Arthur Conan Doyle's 'The Lost World'.
Lake Maracaibo hosts Catatumbo lightning, a spot with some of the most frequent lightning on Earth.
It sits on some of the largest proven oil reserves of any country in the world.
WHAT THE FLAG MEANS
Three equal horizontal bands of yellow, blue and red, with an arc of eight white stars on the blue band. Article 8 of the constitution names the flag by its three colours and then does something unusual: it reserves the characteristics, the meaning and the use of the national symbols to ordinary law. The law that answers it, passed in 2006, describes the flag without interpreting any part of it. The colours are conventionally read as yellow for the wealth of the land, blue for the sea that separated it from Spain and red for the blood of independence. The eighth star was decreed for Guayana in 1817 and restored to the flag in 2006.
A continent pretending to be a country - Australia is the only nation that fills an entire continent, with most of its 27 million people clinging to the coast while the red-dirt interior does its own thing.
It's home to the Great Barrier Reef, the largest living structure on Earth.
Around 80% of its mammals, including the kangaroo and koala, live nowhere else on the planet.
Canberra was purpose-built as a compromise capital because Sydney and Melbourne couldn't stop arguing over the honour.
It has more kangaroos than people.
WHAT THE FLAG MEANS
A blue field with the Union Jack in the canton, a large white seven-pointed Commonwealth Star below it, and the five white stars of the Southern Cross at the fly. Six of the big star's points stand for the states and the seventh for the territories; the Southern Cross marks Australia's place in the southern sky.

The receiver’s side of this corridor
Venezuela has struck zeros off its currency more than once, the most recent round producing the sovereign bolívar, so figures quoted a few years apart are not comparable in any useful way. US dollars circulate widely in everyday trade, and many recipients would rather hold those than the local unit.
The exchange rate is set on the sending side - by the service the sender chooses in Australia - so the most useful thing a receiver can do happens before the transfer: share the live mid-market rate on this page so the sender can judge the margin in their quote. How the money arrives in Venezuela determines any local receiving charges - bank-to-bank transfers can pass through intermediary banks that deduct handling fees.
Which obligations may be paid in foreign currency, and which are not covered
Venezuelan law separates the currency an obligation is measured in from the currency it is settled in, and the distinction decides what somebody ends up holding. Where an obligation has been agreed in a foreign currency as the money of account, payment may be made in that currency or in bolivars at the rate in force on the date of payment. Where the parties' intention was that the obligation be paid in a foreign currency, it is paid in that currency, and the rule expressly holds even where the agreement was made while exchange restrictions were in force. Paragraph (c) limits modification of such an agreement to the case where restrictions prevented the debtor from paying as agreed.
Two things bound how far that reaches. It is a rule about obligations agreed between parties, and which limb applies turns on whether the foreign currency was the money of account or the money of payment. The rule also sits inside an instrument that removed restrictions rather than imposing them: the exchange agreement of September 2018 states its object as establishing free convertibility throughout the national territory, provides that restrictions on exchange operations cease, and leaves the rate to fluctuate with supply and demand.
Who may handle the exchange is named by category in the same instrument. Universal banks governed by the banking-sector law are authorised to act as exchange operators, and the central bank's board may authorise other banking institutions to do so. Private individuals and companies may participate with positions of their own in any foreign currency, while banking, insurance and securities institutions may not present demand quotes without the board's specific authorisation. The Superintendencia de las Instituciones del Sector Bancario issues binding technical, accounting, legal, technological and risk directives, by general resolution and by circular, to the persons under its control.
How much Venezuelan bolívar will I receive in Venezuela?
A little less than the mid-market figures above. The service the sender uses in Australia sets the rate and fees; local receiving banks in Venezuela can also apply their own charges depending on how the transfer arrives.
The sender asked for my details - what will they need?
Whatever their transfer service asks for on the receiving side - typically your full legal name and local bank account details in Venezuela. Give the name exactly as your bank records it; mismatches are the most common reason a transfer is delayed.
Why did I receive less than the rate on this page suggests?
No retail provider transacts at the mid-market rate - it is the midpoint of the wholesale market. What separates it from a quoted rate is margin, and margin is normally a larger cost than any advertised fee. On a bank-to-bank transfer an intermediary bank can also deduct a handling charge in transit.
