Receiving Australian dollars in the Czech Republic
What Czech koruna actually arrives in the Czech Republic when someone sends Australian dollars, at the live mid-market rate. We explain the process; we never recommend a provider.

A landlocked heart-of-Europe nation of castles and hop fields, the Czech Republic drinks more beer per person than any country on Earth and gave the world the word 'robot'.
Its people drink more beer per capita than any other nation in the world.
The word 'robot' comes from a 1920 Czech play by Karel Čapek.
Prague Castle is often cited as the largest ancient castle complex in the world.
Pilsner, the pale lager style brewed worldwide, was invented in the city of Plzeň.
WHAT THE FLAG MEANS
Two horizontal bands, white over red, with a blue wedge at the hoist reaching half the flag's length. It is the Czechoslovak flag of 1920, taken over unchanged and adopted for the Czech Republic in December 1992, three weeks after the constitutional act dissolving the federation had barred both successor states from using its symbols. The white and red are the colours of the Czech and Moravian arms; a third colour was added in 1920 because a plain white-and-red flag was already flying in neighbouring states, Poland among them. Act No. 3/1993 Coll. fixes the geometry and the 2:3 ratio and assigns the colours no meaning, and neither does the constitution - the readings of the blue as Slovakia, Moravia and Subcarpathian Ruthenia, and of the three colours together as Pan-Slavic, come from the reasoning attached to the bills rather than from the statute.

A continent pretending to be a country - Australia is the only nation that fills an entire continent, with most of its 27 million people clinging to the coast while the red-dirt interior does its own thing.
It's home to the Great Barrier Reef, the largest living structure on Earth.
Around 80% of its mammals, including the kangaroo and koala, live nowhere else on the planet.
Canberra was purpose-built as a compromise capital because Sydney and Melbourne couldn't stop arguing over the honour.
It has more kangaroos than people.
WHAT THE FLAG MEANS
A blue field with the Union Jack in the canton, a large white seven-pointed Commonwealth Star below it, and the five white stars of the Southern Cross at the fly. Six of the big star's points stand for the states and the seventh for the territories; the Southern Cross marks Australia's place in the southern sky.

The receiver’s side of this corridor
The koruna floats, though the Czech central bank has intervened decisively in the past when it judged the currency too strong. Prague is a common base for Australians working in Europe, which makes this a salary corridor more than a remittance one.
The exchange rate is set on the sending side - by the service the sender chooses in Australia - so the most useful thing a receiver can do happens before the transfer: share the live mid-market rate on this page so the sender can judge the margin in their quote. How the money arrives in the Czech Republic determines any local receiving charges - bank-to-bank transfers can pass through intermediary banks that deduct handling fees.
The half of a Czech account number that gets left off
Koruna payments between Czech banks have one destination. The Czech National Bank describes CERTIS as the only interbank payment system in the country handling interbank payments in koruna, settling in central bank money on accounts held at the Bank itself. It has run since 8 March 1992, when it started inside the Clearing and Settlement Centre at the State Bank of Czechoslovakia, and the Bank issues its rules under the Payment System Act. Direct participation ran to licensed banks, credit unions and branches of foreign banks until an amendment to that Act opened it to payment institutions and electronic money institutions as well, from April 2025.
The detail worth passing to whoever is sending the money is smaller and easy to lose. A Czech account number, the Bank's own guidance says, consists of two parts divided by a hyphen, and the first part is optional. That first part is the prefix. In the international format nothing is optional: twenty of the twenty-four characters hold the bank code, the prefix and the account number, each in a fixed position. An account written as 19-123457 and the same account written as 123457 produce different addresses, so a recipient whose account carries a prefix has to hand it over with the rest.
Inside the country the money moves quickly, and none of that speed came from Europe. Half of instant payments are executed in under half a second and ninety-nine per cent in under one and a half, and one is rejected outright if it takes longer than six seconds. They run at night and at weekends, to a ceiling of 2,500,000 koruna a payment. The European instant payments regulation, meanwhile, covers credit transfers denominated in euro, and the European Central Bank records that it does not reach instant payments in the national currencies of member states outside the euro area. The duty to check a payee's name reaches Czech providers in July 2027, and it reaches their euro transfers.
How much Czech koruna will I receive in the Czech Republic?
A little less than the mid-market figures above. The service the sender uses in Australia sets the rate and fees; local receiving banks in the Czech Republic can also apply their own charges depending on how the transfer arrives.
The sender asked for my details - what will they need?
Whatever their transfer service asks for on the receiving side - typically your full legal name and local bank account details in the Czech Republic. Give the name exactly as your bank records it; mismatches are the most common reason a transfer is delayed.
Why did I receive less than the rate on this page suggests?
Retail rates are set away from the mid-market midpoint by a margin the provider keeps. Comparing a quote against the reference rate on this page is what makes that margin visible, since it is rarely stated as a fee. On a bank-to-bank transfer an intermediary bank can also deduct a handling charge in transit.
