About the AUD/TWD rate
The AUD/TWD rate is how many TWD one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/TWD rate history.
Where else this pair appears: the reverse rate, TWD → AUD, is on the receiving New Taiwan dollar view, and sending Australian dollars to Taiwan is covered on the AUD → TWD transfer page. Every AUD pair sits on the convert hub, and to work in more than one currency at once there is the currency converter.
What NT$100,000 means at the border
Foreign currency may be carried into or out of Taiwan without any ceiling, provided anything above US$10,000 is declared. New Taiwan dollars are capped at NT$100,000, and Kaohsiung Customs states that the amount above that figure "is not allowed to bring in or out of Taiwan even with a declaration". The declaration route, which lifts the ceiling on every other currency, does not lift this one.
The rate those notes carry is set by a market the central bank leans on. Its own account is that "as Taiwan is a small open economy with high dependence on foreign trade, the Bank suitably adopts a managed float exchange rate regime to contain sharp exchange rate fluctuations", under which the rate "is in principle determined by market forces", with what it calls leaning-against-the-wind operations reserved for disorderly movement. There is no anchor, no parity and no published band. Across 2024 the Bank was a net seller of US$16.4 billion in the foreign exchange market, a figure it publishes in its own annual report alongside reserves of US$576.7 billion.
Settlement approvals draw the same line between residents and everyone else. The Bank's annual report records that a resident individual may remit up to US$10 million a year through banks directly and a resident company up to US$100 million before its approval is required, and that both ceilings were doubled with effect from 1 November 2024. For a non-resident, each transaction up to US$100,000 may be settled by banks directly and anything above needs the Bank's approval. The resident ceilings were raised in 2024; the non-resident threshold has stood unchanged.
