About the AUD/DKK rate

The AUD/DKK rate is how many DKK one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/DKK rate history.

The other directions of this rate: the reverse rate, DKK → AUD, is on the receiving Danish krone view, and sending Australian dollars to Denmark is covered on the AUD → DKK transfer page. Every AUD pair sits on the convert hub, and to work in more than one currency at once there is the currency converter.

The central rate, and the two bands around it

Denmark holds its currency inside a band narrower than the one it is entitled to use. Danmarks Nationalbank records the krone as sitting in the European exchange rate mechanism at a central rate of 746.038 kroner per 100 euro, set by agreement with effect from 1 January 1999. The mechanism's formal band is plus or minus 15 per cent; Denmark concluded a separate agreement for plus or minus 2.25 per cent, which puts the compulsory intervention rates at 762.824 and 729.252 kroner per 100 euro. In practice Danmarks Nationalbank keeps the rate close to the central figure, far inside either limit, so the working band is tighter again than the one it negotiated.

The commitment is deliberate about what it gives up. The Nationalbank states that since the early 1980s Denmark has chosen not to use interest rates to manage the domestic economy: it has two instruments, intervention in the foreign exchange market and adjustments to its own rates, and it uses them to hold the krone. What follows from that is stated equally plainly - price developments in Denmark follow price developments in the euro area. The scale this can demand is on the record: during the pressure on the krone in early 2015 the Nationalbank intervened to the extent of 275 billion kroner.

The legal position of the currency is unusual in the other direction. Denmark's exemption from adopting the euro sits in Protocol 16 to the Treaties, and Article 2 of that protocol provides that the procedure for ending the exemption may only be initiated at Denmark's own request. Nobody else can start it. The European Central Bank's convergence reports, which assess the member states expected to adopt the euro, leave Denmark out altogether as a member state with a special status.

Will I get the mid-market rate?

No. Banks and transfer services add a margin, so the rate you’re offered will be a little worse than the mid-market rate shown here.
