About the AUD/PHP rate
The AUD/PHP rate is how many PHP one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/PHP rate history.

The peso and the border
At the border the peso stops being an ordinary currency. The Bureau of Customs states that a traveller may bring into or take out of the Philippines up to fifty thousand pesos per person without prior approval. Any amount above that needs written authorisation from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, applied for before departing the country of origin, and the central bank grants it only for a short list of purposes: numismatics, currency awareness such as museums and exhibits, and the testing, calibration and configuration of money-counting machines. Amounts carried over the limit without that authorisation are liable to confiscation. The rule covers banknotes, coins, cheques and other peso-denominated instruments alike.
Foreign currency is treated altogether differently, and the contrast is the clearest way to see what the peso rule is for. Foreign cash need only be declared above the equivalent of ten thousand US dollars, with no limit and no permission required. It is the local currency, not the money, that is being kept at home.
Bangko Sentral runs monetary policy on an inflation-targeting framework, which formally replaced monetary aggregate targeting in January 2002 and under which the central bank announces an explicit inflation target and works towards it over a policy horizon using its policy instruments. The exchange rate is left to the market.
The consequence for anyone travelling is that pesos are a currency acquired on arrival. A travel-money counter in Australia can stock a dozen Asian currencies and not this one, and the export limit is the reason.
