About the AUD/RUB rate

The AUD/RUB rate is how many RUB one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/RUB rate history.

Reading the same rate from the other side: the reverse rate, RUB → AUD, is on the receiving Russian ruble view, and sending Australian dollars to Russia is covered on the AUD → RUB transfer page. Every AUD pair sits on the convert hub, and to work in more than one currency at once there is the currency converter.

What the Bank of Russia restricts, in its own words

The Bank of Russia describes the rouble as floating in unqualified terms: the rate is not determined by the government or the central bank and is not fixed, there is no target for its level or its rate of change, and in normal conditions the Bank does not intervene, though it says it may transact in foreign currency to maintain financial stability. It presents the float as a built-in stabiliser that allows an independent monetary policy.

That arrangement has a date. The Bank's own account of its exchange rate policy records a managed float with a dual-currency operational indicator whose composition was fixed in February 2007 at 0.55 US dollars and 0.45 euros, a floating operational band that widened to nine roubles by August 2014, and then 10 November 2014, when it abolished the mechanism by cancelling the permissible range outright.

What a reader actually meets, though, is not the regime but a set of administrative limits that the Bank imposes domestically and renews in six-month steps.

It restricts withdrawals of foreign cash, currently until 9 September 2026: an individual holding a foreign-currency account opened before 9 March 2022 may take up to ten thousand US dollars or the euro equivalent if the entitlement has not already been used, with the remainder paid in roubles, and the restriction covers US dollars, euros, British pounds and Japanese yen. The Bank states its own reason plainly, that sanctions prohibit Russian financial institutions from purchasing Western countries' cash. Separately it caps transfers abroad, over a period running to 31 March 2026, at one million US dollars a month to a foreign bank account and ten thousand a month through money transfer systems.

The practical consequence is that the two directions of this pair are not symmetrical. Converting into roubles and converting out of them run under different rules, and the constraint that binds is a domestic administrative one with an expiry date attached.

Common questions

What is AUD to RUB today?

This page shows the current mid-market AUD→RUB rate with a converter and a 90-day chart. The mid-market rate is a reference midpoint, not a rate you can transact at.

Will I get the mid-market rate?

No. Banks and transfer services add a margin, so the rate you’re offered will be a little worse than the mid-market rate shown here.
