About the AUD/EUR rate

The AUD/EUR rate is how many EUR one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/EUR rate history.

Related views of this rate: the reverse rate, EUR → AUD, is on the receiving euro view, and sending Australian dollars to the European Union is covered on the AUD → EUR transfer page. Every AUD pair sits on the convert hub, and to work in more than one currency at once there is the currency converter.

Who actually uses the euro

The euro is the currency of a monetary union, not of a country, and its membership list is longer and stranger than most people assume. The European Central Bank records that euro banknotes and coins are legal tender in 21 of the 27 European Union member states, covering about 358 million people, with Bulgaria the most recent to adopt it on 1 January 2026. Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City use the euro under formal arrangements with the European Union. Montenegro and Kosovo use it without one.

It arrived in two stages, which is why its history reads oddly. The euro launched on 1 January 1999 as an accounting currency, used for electronic payments while national notes and coins carried on in people's pockets. Physical euro cash did not appear until 1 January 2002, when it replaced the Belgian franc, the Deutsche Mark and the rest at conversion rates that had already been fixed.

One interest-rate decision then covers economies in quite different condition. The European Central Bank sets a single monetary policy for the whole area, so a member running hot and a member running cold are governed by the same settings, and no member can adjust its exchange rate against a neighbour. There is no mechanism for a euro to be worth more in one member state than another.

The list is not closed. Every European Union country except Denmark, which holds an opt-out, is expected to adopt the euro once it meets the convergence criteria, so this currency's territory grows by decision. It is also the second most actively traded currency in the world, on the Bank for International Settlements survey of April 2025, which is why one conversion out of Australian dollars serves a great many destinations and why the destination country changes so little about the currency itself.

Common questions

What is AUD to EUR today?

This page shows the current mid-market AUD→EUR rate with a converter and a 90-day chart. The mid-market rate is a reference midpoint, not a rate you can transact at.

Will I get the mid-market rate?

No. Banks and transfer services add a margin, so the rate you’re offered will be a little worse than the mid-market rate shown here.
