About the AUD/CHF rate

The AUD/CHF rate is how many CHF one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/CHF rate history.

Reading the same rate from the other side: the reverse rate, CHF → AUD, is on the receiving Swiss franc view, and sending Australian dollars to Switzerland is covered on the AUD → CHF transfer page. Every AUD pair sits on the convert hub, and to work in more than one currency at once there is the currency converter.

The thousand-franc note

The ninth series of Swiss banknotes runs from 10 francs to 1,000, and the largest of them is worth more than the biggest note most countries still print. The notes carry themes where earlier series carried portraits, and the thousand-franc note takes communication as its subject. Its survival says something about how Switzerland uses money: cash remains a normal instrument there for amounts that would be electronic almost everywhere else, and the denomination survives on demand, not on inertia.

Behind the cash, the objective the Swiss National Bank works to is defined differently from almost everyone else's. The Bank "equates price stability with a rise in the Swiss consumer price index (CPI) of less than 2% per annum", and states that deflation, a sustained decrease in the price level, also breaches the objective. That is a ceiling with a floor beneath it rather than a point target. The Bank explains the choice: measured inflation tends to be slightly overstated, because improvements in the quality of goods and services are not fully captured in the index.

The mandate itself comes from Article 99 of the Federal Constitution and the National Bank Act, which require the Bank to ensure price stability while taking due account of economic developments, and to act in the interests of the country as a whole rather than of any region or industry. Where price stability and the business cycle conflict, the Bank is directed to give priority to price stability.

Trading in the franc has grown enough for it to reach sixth place in the Bank for International Settlements survey of April 2025, ahead of currencies from far larger economies. A country of nine million people with a currency in the world's top six is an unusual arrangement, and it exists because of what the franc is used for by people who do not live there.

Common questions

What is AUD to CHF today?

This page shows the current mid-market AUD→CHF rate with a converter and a 90-day chart. The mid-market rate is a reference midpoint, not a rate you can transact at.

Will I get the mid-market rate?

No. Banks and transfer services add a margin, so the rate you’re offered will be a little worse than the mid-market rate shown here.
