About the AUD/BZD rate
The AUD/BZD rate is how many BZD one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/BZD rate history.

Where the Belize dollar's peg actually lives
Section 20 of the Central Bank of Belize Act, Chapter 262, puts the par value of the Belize dollar in the text of the statute: one Belize dollar is equivalent to fifty cents of a United States dollar. The same section prescribes how that figure moves. The Minister, after consulting the Bank and in accordance with international agreements, may vary the parity by Order against the United States dollar, sterling or another specified relationship, and the new par value must be published in the Gazette.
Section 21 sets what the currency has to be used for. To be valid in Belize, monetary contracts and obligations must be expressed, recorded and settled in Belize dollars unless something specifically provides otherwise.
Getting foreign currency is governed by a separate statute. Under the Exchange Control Regulations, Chapter 52, nobody but an authorised dealer may buy or sell foreign currency in Belize without the Central Bank's permission, and a resident holding foreign notes they are not entitled to sell must notify the Bank in writing. Permits are issued by the Bank's Exchange Control Department on form XCH-1, which the Bank says it processes within one business day where the application is properly documented.
The Bank put a new banknote series into circulation on 4 August 2025, across six denominations, and its own explanation for the timing is that the notes then in use had been introduced in 1990 and had run past the seven-to-ten-year circulation period it treats as international best practice. The new notes are cotton-based paper, the same substrate as the old ones, and the Bank states that the previous series remains valid legal tender and will circulate alongside them for several years.
