About the AUD/MMK rate
The AUD/MMK rate is how many MMK one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/MMK rate history.
Reading the same rate from the other side: the reverse rate, MMK → AUD, is on the receiving Myanmar kyat view, and sending Australian dollars to Myanmar is covered on the AUD → MMK transfer page. Every AUD pair sits on the convert hub, and to work in more than one currency at once there is the currency converter.
The rules governing foreign money inside Myanmar
Myanmar's exchange controls are not inferred from behaviour; they are published as numbered instruments. The governing one is Notification 12/2022, issued by the Central Bank of Myanmar on 3 April 2022 under section 49(b) of the Foreign Exchange Management Law and signed by the Governor.
Its central requirement concerns time. Foreign currency income received from abroad by a person resident in the country must be sent back into Myanmar, deposited into a foreign currency account at an Authorized Dealer licensed bank, and exchanged into kyat within one working day. The rule reached backwards as well as forwards: foreign currency already sitting in such accounts before the notification was issued was made subject to the same treatment. An implementing directive to the banks the following day, Directive 4/2022, applied it from 4 April 2022 to trade and non-trade income alike.
Money leaving is governed separately. Under the same notification, transferring foreign currency abroad may be done through Authorized Dealer banks only with the approval of the Foreign Exchange Supervisory Committee of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Non-compliance with either limb is actionable under the Foreign Exchange Management Law, and the notification repealed its own predecessor of October 2021 on issue.
The proportion exporters must give up has been moved since. Notification 15/2023 of 13 July 2023 set the conversion at 50 per cent of export earnings; Notification 26/2023, dated 6 December 2023, replaced that with 35 per cent. Each of those instruments amends a ratio; the machinery has stayed where the 2022 notification put it.
