About the AUD/AED rate

The AUD/AED rate is how many AED one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/AED rate history.

The other directions of this rate: the reverse rate, AED → AUD, is on the receiving UAE dirham view, and sending Australian dollars to the United Arab Emirates is covered on the AUD → AED transfer page. Every AUD pair sits on the convert hub, and to work in more than one currency at once there is the currency converter.

Where the peg is written down

The dirham has been fixed to the US dollar at 3.6725 since November 1997. The World Trade Organization's Secretariat, reviewing the United Arab Emirates, records the arrangement as a conventional fixed exchange rate regime and notes the corollary: the central bank must hold enough reserves to maintain it, and monetary policy is therefore directed at maintaining the peg. Nearly three decades have passed without the number being adjusted, which is unusual even among pegged currencies - most are revisited at some point, if only to be re-fixed. The Central Bank's governing statute, Federal Law No. 14 of 2018, gives as its first stated objective "maintaining the stability of the national currency within the framework of the monetary system". The peg sits in the mandate itself, which is a different kind of commitment from an announced target.

What stands behind it grew sharply over a single year. The Central Bank's 2024 annual report records foreign reserves rising from US$183 billion at the start of that year to US$231 billion by its close, with the monetary base cover of foreign exchange reserves reaching a record above 112 per cent. Reviewing the country at the end of 2025, the International Monetary Fund judged the peg to remain appropriate and recorded that the authorities underscored their strong commitment to it.

For a traveller, the arrangement is administratively light. The WTO Secretariat records an exchange system free of restrictions on payments and transfers for international transactions beyond measures taken under United Nations resolutions, and the UAE government's own customs guidance puts the declaration threshold at 60,000 dirhams without capping anything above it: cash, financial instruments, precious metals and valuable stones above that figure are declared to the federal authority, and no maximum is set.

Common questions

What is AUD to AED today?

This page shows the current mid-market AUD→AED rate with a converter and a 90-day chart. The mid-market rate is a reference midpoint, not a rate you can transact at.

Will I get the mid-market rate?

No. Banks and transfer services add a margin, so the rate you’re offered will be a little worse than the mid-market rate shown here.
