About the AUD/LYD rate

The AUD/LYD rate is how many LYD one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/LYD rate history.

Reading the same rate from the other side: the reverse rate, LYD → AUD, is on the receiving Libyan dinar view, and sending Australian dollars to Libya is covered on the AUD → LYD transfer page. Every AUD pair sits on the convert hub, and to work in more than one currency at once there is the currency converter.

The gap between the two rates, and the tool used on it

In September 2018 Libya's Presidential Council adopted an economic reform programme imposing a fee of 183 per cent on foreign exchange sold at the official rate, and on 30 July 2019 it reduced that fee to 163 per cent. The Central Bank of Libya publishes both decisions in its own chronology. A government facing a gap between its official rate and the street can move the rate or make the rate expensive to use, and this was the second. A fee leaves the published parity formally untouched.

The Central Bank of Libya has since moved the rate directly, and its own record lists the decisions: a devaluation of about 70 per cent in December 2020, a further 13.3 per cent in March 2025, and another 14.7 per cent in January 2026, each expressed as a new value against the International Monetary Fund's special drawing right.

None of this was done by one institution for most of the period. The Central Bank of Libya operated as two rival administrations from 2014, one in Tripoli and one in the east, and the European Union's External Action Service confirmed their announcement in August 2023 that they had reunified as a single sovereign institution. The fee decisions and the December 2020 devaluation were all taken during that division; only the 2025 and 2026 devaluations followed the reunification.

Common questions

What is AUD to LYD today?

This page shows the current mid-market AUD→LYD rate with a converter and a 90-day chart. The mid-market rate is a reference midpoint, not a rate you can transact at.

Will I get the mid-market rate?

No. Banks and transfer services add a margin, so the rate you’re offered will be a little worse than the mid-market rate shown here.
