About the AUD/NAD rate
The AUD/NAD rate is how many NAD one Australian dollar buys. It moves constantly with interest-rate expectations, commodity prices and global risk sentiment - see what moves the rate. Tradergy shows the mid-market reference rate and does not forecast where it’s heading. For the 52-week highs and lows and a daily table, see the AUD/NAD rate history.
Where else this pair appears: the reverse rate, NAD → AUD, is on the receiving Namibian dollar view, and sending Australian dollars to Namibia is covered on the AUD → NAD transfer page. Every AUD pair sits on the convert hub, and to work in more than one currency at once there is the currency converter.
How a new Namibia dollar note reaches circulation
No Namibia dollar note may be issued until its characteristics have been published in the Government Gazette. Section 40 of the Bank of Namibia Act 1 of 2020 puts the choice of denominations, measures, weights, designs and features with the Bank's Board subject to the Minister's approval, and then requires the Governor to have those characteristics gazetted before issue. The result is that a country's next banknote is a public document before it is money.
The most recent of those notices is General Notice 579 of 2025, published in Government Gazette No. 8707 on 8 August 2025 expressly in terms of section 40(2). It sets out five upgraded banknotes from ten to two hundred dollars, with the ten and twenty printed on a composite substrate and the remaining three on cotton, and specifies the raised lines for the visually impaired that run from two on the ten to ten on the two hundred.
The same notice changes the coinage, and the set it describes is not the set it replaces. The new series runs ten cents, twenty cents, fifty cents, one dollar and five dollars, with the five-cent piece absent and a twenty-cent piece appearing. The Bank issued the series at a ceremony in Mariental and made it available at banking halls and commercial bank machines from 30 September 2025, stating that all current coins and banknotes remain legal tender and will circulate alongside it.
Namibian law also says something about a currency it does not issue. Section 45 of the same Act provides that, despite the sections establishing the Namibia dollar and the Bank's sole right of issue, banknotes and coins issued by the South African Reserve Bank continue to serve as legal tender in Namibia until a date the Minister fixes by notice in the Gazette, and that until then they are considered to be banknotes and coins of the Bank.
Exchange control runs on a much older instrument. Section 54 makes the Bank the Government's agent for exchange control powers assigned or delegated to it under the Currency and Exchanges Act, of which only section 9 applies in Namibia, with the operative rules in the Exchange Control Regulations of 1961.
